May 3: We drive to New Hampshire to meet cousins and on the way... |
...we find lovely scenery despite the overcast day! |
This house is interesting even without the mountain backdrop covered by low clouds today. |
We meet at the Hart's Turkey Farm in Meredith, NH for lunch together. |
Saying, "Good-bye," in the parking lot later... |
...and we select gifts that Barb has brought. |
On the way home, we stop in Meredith to try to capture.... |
...some of the gorgeous Winnipesauki scenery. |
 Indian Island and.... |
...lovely spring vegetation border the lake. |
 |
And back in Maine, we find this new growth .... |
evergreen marsh with interesting shapes and textures. |
May 5: Steve & Crystal spend the weekend and we go to .... |
 Brunswick for Indian. |
Then it's on to the Peary Museum at Bowdoin College where... |
.....we hear the beat of drums. |
It's Solar Day on campus with fun for young... |
 ...and older. |
May 7: Steve and Crystal's last visit day; this captures their mood, I think. |
We all go out for lunch at... |
 ...the Tugboat Inn. |
 Where... |
....the views are gorgeous and we .... |
 ....take advantage of it! |
We get lots of photos of these two as they approach... |
...Steve's stint in Iraq. He wants the flag backdrop, but also... |
 ...enjoys ocean views... |
 ...with Crystal. |
Scout knows a doglover when he meets one! |
And all too soon, it's time... |
 ....to say 'farewell,' |
....and get ready for the long trip back to RI. |
Starting May 9 the clouds and rain arrive! |
For over a week we get nothing but overcast, rain and flooding (further south). |
So I take to the kitchen to find 'things' to photograph. |
I unpack the tripod, the light table and my flash to .... |
....stage a few 'product' shots. |
We'll see if anyone is interested in buying... |
 ....this kind.... |
 ....of stuff. |
Then I finally give up on the sun and take to the streets in the rain, finding.... |
...spring flowers on the streets and at the.... |
....local nursery. Lovely!! Thank God for colorful flowers! |
May 18: We go to Evergreen Cemetery for the Warblers, but... |
...these birds are SO much easier to shoot! |
And if you can't find birds, try bird.... |
 ...watchers or.... |
....the random, stray frog or.... |
...how about spring maple leaves? They sit REAL still and are pretty too! |
Oh! But HERE is a warbler...yes, we did see a few and... |
.....I did my best to photograph them.... |
....even when they were too high and far away! |
Then kids arrived on a field trip and they... |
....were interesting and fun to 'shoot' too. |
This goose wasn't so sure about these two! |
Geese were a source of endless fascination and he could get SO close! |
But others came prepared with.... |
....nets and buckets to catch that stray frog! |
And being in a cemetery sometimes provides sad stories that MUST be told! |
Leaving the Magnum Exhibit, I find these kids in the Museum lobby. |
May 19: It's a gloriously crisp evening on Ocean Point with late day sun splashing everything it touches with light. |
Spring on Ocean Point, Maine and... |
...around the corner the last gasps of sun give way to.... |
 ....this. |
Behind us is an interesting doorway....viva! |
 coastal crumudgeons! |
May 20: We make an early morning return trip to Evergreen park to find warblers with... |
 ....little success...but a robin isn't a bad standin. |
Sad gravestone...a child of 10...gone too soon! |
Face off...two small dogs 'arm wrestle' to see who will maintain dominance. |
Then we go back to Edward's where the flowers are in full bloom and... |
...the hummers are BUSY! This one is taking a break from... |
...the hard work of hovering over... |
 ....yummy hummer juice! |
These little jewels buzzed around like worker bees! |
And a female tananger visited as well. |
May 25: We meet Rich and Frances in Kennebunkport for a celebration of.... |
 Ron's birthday. |
Kennebunkport is the President's Family Summer retreat and a quaint village. |
With Classic New England architecture. |
Frances and I take a walk so that the siblings can.... |
 ....have some time together. |
Then it's time to take photos and say, |
'Farewell,' til the next time. |
