As winter sets in and.... |
....there are more dark hours than light... |
.....it makes sense to photograph.... |
....the edges of the day. |
 Pemaquid Light Before Dawn |
January 21, We make a journey to Pemaquid Light where... |
....we wonder if there will be snow, but.... |
...it's a gorgeous, bright, winter day and there's no... |
 ....snow at all! |
I guess the wind has blown.... |
 ....it all away! |
 Owl's Head Light.... |
....on a cold February afternoon.... |
....is worth the drive and.... |
 ....the walk in. |
Day two we take a trip to the other end of the park and I get to take a trite shot of Bass Head Light. |
...and more expected sights at the Pemaquid Light... |

Lighthouse and Lace (Queen Anne's) |
 January 18, and it's a storm...60 mph gusts with 18-20 foot waves... |
...at high tide on Pemaquid Point... |
...waves crash over the central column of ledge where we usually sit to watch the ocean!! |
People brace to hold onto their hats and not be blown away... |
...and take shelter in the lea of the light to escape the wild wind for a few moments. |
On the next peninsula a lone tree stands alone against the weather! |
participate in a 'fence' post on.. |

 Lovely museum and light. |
October 13: Liz visits from Pittsburgh and we go to her favorite coastal .... |
 ....lighthouse...Pemaquid. |
 What a place for a conversation! |
 |
Gorgeous surf slams the ledges nearby. |
Then we sit on the picnic benches to enjoy... |
 |
Oct. 14: We go to Marshall Point...another |
 lighthouse ....again! |
Ron and Liz check out the shore. |
And we all explore the light..... |
 ....and the keeper's ..... |
 ....house, then..... |
 ....Marshall Point lighthouse. |
West Quoddy is probably one of the... |
...prettiest lighthouses in Maine...at least I think so! |
Lovely red and white candystripes are bright... |
 ...even through a window! |
Then it's on to East Quoddy light...smaller and less spectacular, but pretty just the same. |
 ....pictures....collage time! |
We make it to West Quoddy Light again...lovely....again! |
 March 24: Edward and I... |
....get out for a trip to the ..... |
 ....Bristol Peninsula and.... |
....Pemaquid. Lovely no matter how many times you've been there!! |
I'm always looking for a different perspective and this time... |
And with the blue skies and scattered clouds, |
it's a special day to photograph this... |
 lighthouse from many angles. |
 |
A wide angle lens really lets you 'get it all!' |
May 6; We head out to Portland to... |
...check out Portland Head Lighthouse. |
 And it's a gorgeous day! |
Time to get new perspectives and ... |
 |
From the museum, windows look out at the light through opaque shades. |
And before we leave, it's time to try for additional.... |
 ....perspectives. |
This just about sums it up! |
 Is this one better? |
June 6: The sun comes out and it's time for a trip to... |
Pemaquid Point and the lighthouse where |
 ...reflections are lovely and... |
 |
....ledges are as amazing as ever! |
There are now TWO warning signs on the fence, but.... |
...the sky isn't as dramatic as last time. |
Here's a view from the spine of the ledges.... |
...and in front of the bell house. |
People are enjoying the sunshine and surf. |
June 20: We go to Pemaquid, Liz and Michaele's favorite Maine place! |
....the overcast starts to break up. |
And it's another gorgeous Pemaquid day with interesting... |
 ....boats.... |
 ....stripped lighthouse. Neat! |
 |
Everyone enjoys sitting on the ledges watcing the waves crash and smelling the salt.... |
....air on a gorgeous day. |
 ....to Burnt Island. |
Keeper's house is beautiful with all it's angles and rooflines. |
The sun comes out and tourist boats ply the harbor beyond the light as.... |
...the keeper explains how a kerosene lamp provided the light... |
....that powered the Fresnell lens in the lighthouse. |
More boats leave the harbor with tourists going on other journeys. |
 This small light.... |
 As is the harbor. |
Ron sits and enjoys the view. |
Then to catch some cool breezes, we stop at Portland Head Light. |
 There's a beautiful, blue sky and... |
...small, puffy clouds on the horizon... Michaele and Liz enjoy the view! |
 ....growing on the grounds. |
 What a sight! |
Then we head out for Pemaquid where we climb the lighthouse to the... |
...lightroom where we have a sweeping view and feel... |
....like we're on top of the world up here where... |
...we can see 'our shadow' from above!! |
 It's a lovely, bright, blue day! |
And this place is endlessly... |
 ...gorgeous... |
...no matter how many times one visits. |
Lucille enjoys the view and... |
...wonders if this bench is a Barre Granite one. |
Ram Island from the boat. |
 inside the keeper |
July 15: It's in to Portland and the Portland.... |
 ...the high noon sunshine. |
 Ram Island Lighthouse... |
And the East Wind comes along for a bit of added... |
It's a gorgeous day at pemaquid Light! |
 ...especially in.... |
 ....black and white! |
 |
 |
 March 2: At Pemaquid... |
...it's a pretty day with few reminents of the storm. |
 except... |
 ...a fence that has been re-arranged. |
 with pretty shadows. |
 ... |
and grass that appears brushed! |
Here you can see the fence better! |
So I find myself at... |
 ....Pemaquid Lighthouse with it's... |
...to take a look at a lens and... |
....and gulls take refuge on the rocks. |
 Tom climbs the light. |
