June 10: We leave Union Station in Portland.	Good-bye...	Portland!
The terrain along the Columbia Gorge is pretty...	...severe!	And there's electric towers everywhere....eledtrical generation is BIG here!
The sky gets real pretty at sunset.	The next morning from the train window.	Then from Whitefish station!

There's a warm fire burning today and we need it ....temps in 50's.	Brook outside MacDonald Lodge...can't remember the name.	Tour boats outside lodge.

but with a view like this who needs it!	front of motel.	June 12: We head into the park.

In spring, the streams run fast!	We luck into a hungry moose who...	...stands obediently for us to 'shoot.'
He even looks back for a good shot!	A crowd gathers to shoot him.	On the othert side of the road, it's quiet and beautiful!

Similar view.	June 12: Looking up the lake in early AM.	It's a calm morning.
We drive to the East Side of the park past..	...the Silver Stairs waterfall outside the park.	Then stop at one of the old Lodges.
The scale of this one is just too BIG!	Then we pass the golf course on our way..	toward Two Medicine
and Eagle Woman Falls.	It's Spring and the flowers are everywhere!	Eagle Woman Falls...there's a story here!
Two Medicine where the wind always blows!	Displays inside the grocerystore at Two Medicine there are Blackfeet themes...	....which are evident all over the East side.

That evening we go for a walk in the park to find the lake glass smooth...	and people out 'shooting' the lake.	Rental boats are on the lake; kayakers go for a paddle!
June 14: The day dawns at 5:30 AM...	and this is the view outside our room!	Could it be prettier? I don't think so!
It's a pretty day, so we decide to spend another one in the park.	Ron insists we document my being there! So, here I am!	At Avalanche Creek and Trail of the Cedars.
	Cedar trees in various stages of life and death are everywhere.	Some are 'gone' and moss-covered.
Avalanche Gorge roars!	Wish I'd used the video recorder w/ microphone for Avalanche Gorge! What a sound!	Same cedar with young resident!
MacDonald Creek nearby.	We always stop at MacDonald lodge for coffee and to sit outside. The DeSmet is coming in.	Then a walk down the lane where cottages are ....give us bear grass!
...and a slightly different perspective on the mountains.	More..	....bear grass. Thank God it's Spring! We missed these last Fall.
At the end of the day, rain threatens with rainbows which you can't see here.	But it doesn't stop boaters!	June 15: The day starts sunny though they've predicted rain.
Yes, there ARE private cottages on the lake, but not many.	It's mostly wilderness.	The influence of Indians is evident in many ways.
Then it's on to museums....Pussy Toes here outside the schoolhouse Museum in Kallispell.	More Indians....love these!	Then on to the Hockiday a local old Carnegie Library turned to museum.
Lovely old building!	June 16 dawns rainy.	...so we go to the laundramat.
...and i get a haircut at a cosmostology school...all went just fine!	Then we had lunch.	At 9:00 PM it was still this light out! Wow!
June 17 Another day of rain! UGH1	But we're happy anyway...with oatmeal for breakfast, how could you be otherwise?	The we head for Whitefish to visit the rhinestone cowboys.
And there's plenty of ....	....that here!	We've decided athat Whitefish is another Aspen in the making!@
Give them time and they'll be there!	Upscale shops and...	patriotism in every corner tags them!
Antiques are big too and sometimes I sneak into the shot.	And of course, there's an upscale toy store too!	Indian themes abound here too.
Then back at macDonald Lodge, they're fixing the clock.		...and stirring the fire on a cold, wet day!
The tinkle of a piano warms the atmosphere too.	played by a tourist.....we're guessing...would a paid employee play in bare feet?	June 17 starts rainy again!
But we're out early as are the deer.	We head out to the bison Range.	Along the way we stop for DONUTS! What else!
this little girl is enjoying her donut.	Clouds make it a pretty ride.	But by the time we reach Nine Pipes it has cleared.
very pretty.	And when we reach the bison range....	you can see for miles!
The pronghorn antelope are vegging in the	...wildflowers! Smart animals!	They are around every corner, but
....NO buffalo today!	And the wildflowers turn meadows yellow!	Don't know what they are called, but PRETTY
See the yellow field.	You can tell that I liked these...	...they just go on and on...
...as do the views!	....and the clouds...	A ranch with yellow meadows and hills beyond.
Mission mountains.	Flathhead Lake is along the way and on the way home...	...the sun is out, so we can see/photograph it!
It's too big for one shot to do it justice.	It's the largest lake West of the Mississippi.	and just goes on and on!
June 19 Finds us back in the park, but the water has evaporated by the motel.	Clouds still hang in the...	....mountains.
We drive up on Going to the Sun Road which is still not 100% open.	but it surely is pretty!	People bike it which is amazing to me!
There are different perspectives in every direction...	...so it's hard to know what to shoot.	...from inside the tunnel.
Water is flowing aruond every corner.	Gotta prove we were here.	Pink rock is prevalent..
...here in the lakes and streams.	At the obligatory macDonald stop we find this on the side of a car! Nothing like 'wearing' your politics!	In the lobby, people take quiet moments with family.
...to take photos and....	....try on new purchases.	Then back at the motel, we record the daily view.
June 20: Boaters cruise the lake...	...and it LOOKS like summer though it;s in the 50's!	A usual route with rock outcroppiings.
After a minor 'accident' w the rental car, we make a switch, then go into Kallispell...	...where most of the shops are closed.	...if colorful!
....Art galleries and..	...a variety of shops populate the downtown.	...w/ a decided Western flavor.
Every town has a war memorial and this one..	...is no exception....a very nice..	....one w/ WWII era sculpture.
And what self-respecting western town would be without a saloon!??	And a gambling house?	Norm's News has the most lovely...
...store with art on the walls.	...and penny candy out the wazoo!	Isn't this lovely? From Italy!
Small town life is on the wall behind the candy counter.	We get a free frappe which is wonderful!	And the server has to get into the shot!
She's a soda jerk, in name only!	Part of the mural..	Then next door we find a western clothing store.
....with lots of hats!	Didn't check this out.	Have you ever seen so many cowboy boots in one place?
Interesting cloud on the way home!	Lilacs are blooming right now.	and it's fishing season.
We see fish jump outside our 'front door.'	June 21: First day of summer? RAIN and laundry!	Dad and daughter wrestle at the laundramat.
Everett Dirkson? Norm's lunch!	w/ frappe...yummmmmm!	Then we check out the Frye boots...blast from the past!
June 22: Dawns cloudy with promise of rain or sun...take your pick!	Clouds hang in the mountains, but we have hope..	...for a good photo day.
Ron stops for bug juice.	This guy has his motor bike ready to go.	The lake is pretty along the way.
Sprague Creek rushes through the trees.	What a sigtht! What a sound!	Pretty!

Death	Usual stop at MacDonald; getting ready for a DeSmet ride.	Here she sits.
The lake and mountains beyond.	Same..	flotsome and jetsome...even in a lake!
Dad teaches his son to fish.	On the boat we see...	the shore reflected...
Again....and...	...again...	...and again!
Tangles of trees and...	...reflections of burned trees.	A trail into the woods.
More burned trees from a fire in 2003	Ron's favorite waterfall.	Here he is spying his waterfall.
Where the light is just perfect to capture.	Then we head out for Trail of the Cedars and Avalanche Gorge.	...this lovely old forest.
There are trees here that are 500 years old!	Some have passed on already.
Avalanche Gorge is a small cut in rocks and forest.	It's lovely and beautiful!	Water does amazing things to rock!
Potholes are here and there.	And the moisture encourages moss and ferns.	The forest floor abounds in life.
Avalanche creek rushes on.	Here's an oldie...TWO of them!	And a dead one.
Bark is amazing!	Hello, Tree!	The light makes the forest floor extra pretty.
A family explores it.	Same..	Devil's Club and various other veggies.
On the way 'home' we find bear grass.	This is a signature flower for Glacier....I love it!	We see trout in the lake and fisherkids are out to catch them! NO luck!
June 23: Obligatory morning shot.	Fog hangs in the mountains.	The town of Hungry Horse trades on it's namesake.
Ain't he cute?	Then we head into the mountains...red bus passes.	See how the road drops off to nothing?
Water flows out of the rock.	Forest fire killed trees.	Wildflowers...will try to find the name.

Ron gets me into the picture as much as he can.	And i get him!	The lake in the evening.

And sometimes isn't in focus.	Early bear grass is nearby.	And there is a cluster of cedars that are gorgeous!
Douglas Fir can be interesting too.	Guess who...	Looks almost good enough to eat!
Another wildflower....no name...YET!	In the evening the kayakers are out again.	....and the lake is settling down for another day.
The Pass opens today, but we won't be on it!	We're in Kalispell instead.	Visiting a neat antique/craft store...
Lovely displays entice us to buy!	And then we walk the streets and reshoot this one.	May stay at this hotel next year. Almost 100 years old!
With a barber shop next door and...	Norm's on the next corner.	What would the day be without cowboys?

_6240347.jpg	June 25: We look out front and some girls are fishing.	This morning dawns colorful, but not as...
...pretty as our first colorful experience.	We drive up to Big Mountain and find a lovely field of wildflowers from which to enjoy the view!	This is the kind of home that can be found here....people who are NOT effected by the downturn!
More wildflowers...	...from this very exclusive place.	Enjoy cause we'll never be here again!
