I had just pulled in to the parking lot of L&M hospital when GFA toned out the canteen for a run in Norwich. The GPS indicated about a 25 minute response. My ailing mother wasn't going anywhere and I had the holiday off so I took it in.

The fire building was an occupied six-family with heavy fire on the second floor that extended. They teased it for hours with master streams until the roof was completely burned off and the fire could be extinguished.

Kelly Piatt Barrera, lost her apartment, her 5 cats, all her artwork for over 20 years, all her mom's momentos (Mary Jordan Piatt who died of cancer.) This happened this week in Norwich CT, on Washington St. Kelly is still in the hospital in Norwich, and they found she has a brain tumor. She is fighting lung cancer. They did radiation yesterday. She was having headaches. it was a big fire Kelly is on the stretcher with oxygen on. The firefighters carried her down the back steps (back of apt seen in the last picture.) She was on the phone telling about the fire and they were telling her to put on the Oxygen mask. Kelly lived in the third floor apartment. The fire started because a lady on the second floor left food on the stove. This was my cousin.
