BRAHEHUS CASTLE - Sweden

This castle was built in the mid 17th century by the Lord High Chancelor Per Brahe the Younger, originally intended as a country retreat. In 1645, it became a dower house for Pere Brahe and his wife Kristina (Katarina Stenbock). A few years later she died and the castle was converted to guest accomodations. It fell into disrepair and decay after being ravaged by a fire in 1708.

From the ruins you have a wonderful view of Lake Vättern.
Situated outside Gränna in the province of Småland, Sweden - Gränna is known for its red and white candy canes, also known as peppermint rocks or "polkagrisar" in Swedish.
