Dan Wyman

We came across a seagull that was struggling to free itself from the pier pilings in Portland, Maine. It was hanging from a fishing line, with a hook through its wing. Locals told us it had been there for 2-3 days.

My daughter and I talked to a number of people before we finally prevailed on the woman in the picture to take a boat out there. She and the two men were able to free the bird.

A wonderful explanation of this image and I applaud you for your concern in helping this seagull. I also could not have just walked away. The image itself is beautifully shot with excellent clarity and colors. A winning combination for you and the seagull. VVV

Good work to free the bird. Although often they do not seem grateful!

Looks like a treacherous place for man or bird.
