18 January

This is my grandfather's pocket watch, the only item my father had from his inheritance

Similarly it is the only item I have from my father and it still works perfectly.
I keep it enclosed in a glass globe.

Behind the watch is a picture of my father as a young man starting out in the business world circa 1930 . .a very rough time to be trying to strike out on one's own.

This isn't as sharp as I wanted it to be; still more to learn.

And this isn't an original thought; it's inspired by photos I've seen at other PaD sites.

This was NOT SEPIA'd in PS . . .
this is just as it came out of the camera with the existing light =]

Olympus C-2100UZ
1/4s f/2.8 at 13.8mm iso100; candle light full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

I like this one very much...hard to say if I like this one or the Outtake...you made a good choice...love the subtitle color...and it is very crisp

Lovely story behind your watch. My watch was given to me by my late brother, on his wedding day. I was one of his ushers, and the gifts we got were these lovely pocket watches. I like sentimental objects with a history, makes them seem less common.

Beautiful image, composition, lighting, style, and rich story behind the watch. Great one, Virginia !!

Absolutely perfect still-life. The gaussian blur you added is really amazing ;-)

I think it is just right - very smooth and old-fashioned, like it should be with the story it has to tell - well done...Cheers, Bee

I LOVE this image! You say it is not as sharp as you would like, but I see it as "just right"! The slight softness of it adds to the attraction. The old picture in the background peeking in from the left sets the tone well. It actually has the "sepia toned" look without the "software doctoring" feel. My eye tells me that the tone was natural. Great shot and what an incredible heirloom.

Pete: I just love this! A nice touch is the cracked appearance of the watchface. Four years ago I had to clear a load of stuff out from my mum's place when she moved. A lot of it was junk, but if only I was doing PAD then I would have had loads of subject matter!

Very beautiful! I love rustic pictures like this, and the soft brown and dark colors work well for this type of an image! Wonderfully captured!

Thanks Simon & Steve for your insight
Rod - you may have one of the images that inspired this one ^_^
Elizabeth - I hope you find the ones you used to have; it would br fun to compare them
John, Pall, & Nikki - thank you for the feedback; it is very much appreciated
Jeanne - yes I did try a couple of sepia shots but they looked too pinkis or magenta to me. I'll post one in PaD extras/outtakes to show what I mean

Thanks again everyone - I appreciate just the fact that you stopped by!

I like your concept of time - the picture behind the watch as in the past, and the watch as the main focus for the frame. Great stuff!

Very fine

Placing that old photo in the background was a great touch. Did you try this in sepia? I wonder if it would look even older?

Touching story, nice shot.

Very nice! I like the old picture in the background too. My parents used to have a few watches like this in globes in our living room. I'll have to ask what happened to them.

Very cool! I LOVE watches and clocks (matter of fact, I did a PAD with my stopwatch, too). :)

Originality isn't everything. The way you capture a subject is more important. And here you've done it flawlessly.

a technicaly perfect picture is not every thing, a picture is telling a story about one moment in time, yours is a reminder that time is precious, thanks.
