At one time,the most prosperous African-American district in the country stretched along Clairbourne Ave. from Treme into the 7th. Ward. In the 1960's, this District was deemed dispensable by the city so it was destroyed to make way for the new I-10 Interstate Loop.The Interstate divided the the neighborhood in half.
