My first time to go to Singapore was back in 2006. I yanked myself out of bed just before midnight and forced myself to take a long spontaneous walk around the city. I picked up a map from the concierge and headed for the river area.

Once I got along the river banks, the pictures practically started taking themselves. Wow! If you’re into cityscapes, this is a great place to play around. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t have a tripod. Murphy had something to do with it. I was forced to use a home made bean bag and a high ISO.

I saw such a different side to Singapore that night. Just left to wander on my own, I immersed myself a bit and just hung back and watched peoples lives just happen. I know its cliché, but the place really is one giant melting pot of cultures. The expatriate community really seem to like to party and there are so many new bars and restaurants that cater to them.

It’s an expensive place to drink, by Asian standards at least, but its all relative. One thing is you will feel extremely safe, regardless of what hour it is. I was so impressed that I wanted to see it all again during the day so I booked myself in for a City tour the following morning, just before flying out.

After several hours of walking around, I eventually climbed back into bed exhausted at around 3 am but this time with a memory card full of memories. I hope you enjoy your tour even half as much as I did.
