Take my new Zeiss 50mm F/2 Makro-Planar T* out for a test drive.
While the Sigma 50 F/1.4 HSM is head and shoulder above the EF 50 F/1.4 and I have been pretty happy with it, however, I much prefer the new Zeiss 35 F/1.4 (or 35L) & EF 85 F/1.2II for low light and portrait work, therefore I hardly use the Sigma 50 HSM wide open any more, so I decided to trade it for a Zeiss 50 F/2 Makro-Planar T*, which is another significant step up in terms of image quality and built quality, the local contrast, the color rendition, the edge to edge sharpness, the Bokeh, the lack of CA, the handling, the built quality, the wide open performance, those are the things separates the Zeiss from the Canon lens.....everything is a step up, unfortunately that also includes the price as well :)
All shots are straight out of the camera, no PP of any kind other than down-sized via DPP, the lens seems to work pretty good for me so far even I am not a big fan of 50mm focal length, I guess the IQ it provides will make me want to use it more often from now on, Manual Focus can be tricky in some places even with the optional Eg-S focusing screen, but I was able to nail the focus for the most part. So far so good, this is only my first day with this lens, so it can only get better after I spend more time with it and learn more about the lens.
