Went up to Yosemite last weekend, the Memorial Day long weekend, but will never do that again, not that I didn't know National Park around here on long weekend is a big mess, I just kind of forgot about it thinking I am only doing night photo, but this weekend everyone and their brothers and sisters and their kids and even their in laws are out there in the park.... LOL, Arrived at the gate at about 5:00PM, so it should give me more than enough time to get up to Glacier Point for a few sunset snap shots, WRONG !!!, they round everyone up at Badger Pass Ski Ranch area, not letting anyone thru unless some people left and free up some space up there, the ranger told me the wait time can be anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours from this point, what the hack? ....., so by the time I got up to the parking lot, it was 8:15PM, so more than 3 hours from the entrance gate to the top of Glacier Point.
So I just missed the sunset, not a big lost as it wasn't impressive at all, good thing was once the sun went down, so did most of the people, I had the mountain for myself again, hiked down the Panorama trial a little bit to get to a less well know location and set up for Milkyway shooting.....no moon, foreground sucks....then went down to the classic Tunnel View, but Milkyway was way too high already by that time.....went back up Glacier Point for Sunrise, and not impressive of a sunrise that morning at all.... went up Tioga Pass and did a 8 mile hike during the day.... it was HOT...then went down to Mono Lake for sunset, not impressive at all either, there was no clouds, ran into a few guys i met before and they invited me to boing back up to some "secret location" for more.....as much as I would love to join them but two nights without any sleep was hard enough and can't make it third night straight.....getting too old for that crap. LOL. Will be back in a few week, anyone want to join just drop me a line.
