It's that time of the year again -- San Francisco Fleet Week !!!
In San Francisco, we don't normally get a whole week of warm weather with sunny sky during this time of the year, it's normally very foggy and cold, in fact, it was so horrible they actually cancelled the Airshow few times in the last few years, and the rest of the time when they actually had it was under the overcast grey sky, and everyone headed out to the bay front all bundled up like they were heading up to a ski slope.
So I took advantage of the great weather condition and went out there for the whole weekend, did my usual thing, got out there at 8:00 AM to claim "my spot", yes, I do have my tripod mark in those spots by now, haha, and you know Blue Angel doesn't start flying until 3:00PM, right?
Didn't haul a lot of gears this time, mainly the new toy, 1DX with the trusty cheap Tamron 150-600mm, I wish I have a 500 or 600mm prime but I don't, so got to work with what I have, and the old but never want to die 1D MK II, also the Sony A7R II, but that was nothing but frustration there, so after 30 minutes playing with it, it went back to the camera bag and never saw the light for the whole day, didn't even know why I brought it with me on an airshow.
Regarding camera gears, is that just me got infected by the Nikon virus or Canon really that far behind the competition in sensor technologies? after 12 years since 1D MK II days of being a royal 1D user, and owner of 4 Canon 1-seres bodies, I feel like I am finally losing interest in this camera, I thought even the new Nikon D500 with a crop sensor looks as good even better than the Full Frame 1Dx, focusing system is no doubt top notch on the 1-Series and there is nothing in Nikon in my opinion comes even close to the ergonomics to the 1-series, it really fits like a glove in my hand. and the control layout, focusing, size, weight, speed......everything is just perfect for me, but I just don't like the shadow noise from these new Canons.First time I used Auto ISO in some of these shots as I wanted to control my shutter speed and aperture myself and being lazy just let the camera pick the ISO, and I saw SO MUCH noise in the shadow even under bright day light with such low ISO setting, it really reminds those 7D and 7D MK II, and the noise is not even like those from the old 1D MK II kind of noise, very annoying.
At the end of the album, you will see a few fireworks shot, which they didn't advertise anywhere so no one really knows about it, there were only 3 "real photographer" out there at Treasure Island visitor point with tripods, surrounded by like 50 people just arrived by tour bus shooting with their phones,so I am glad my " insider resource" gave me the info so i made it out there.
