During the 1980's the SP Siskiyou Line handled much of southern Oregon's Lumber traffic heading into California and the SP routing to the Eastern markets. The route entered California by crossing the Siskiyou Mountains as planned by the Oregon and California RR, completed by the Central Pacific, later called the Southern Pacific RR, in the 1880's. In later years the traffic from Roseburg and Medford has been routed by way of the north end of the Siskiyou Branch and trains on this section of the Siskiyou Line are rare. However, the State of Oregon has funded a rebuild of the line and it has re-opened for traffic in late 2015 with daily trains operated by the Central Oregon and Pacific ( CORP ) railroad.
