We next visited the island of Molokai on November 18th. As soon as we arrived, we embarked upon an expedition to the village of Kalaupapa, reached by an arduous decent (and subsequent ascent) of the highest sea cliffs in Hawaii - a distance of 3 1/8 miles. Kalaupapa is infamous a an enforced quarantine colony for those suffering from leprosy in the 19th and into the mid 20th century.
During our tip we were delighted to meet Clark, Judy, Francis & Brian who were staying at the Coffees of Hawaii plantation (see next gallery). Many thanks to Maria for all her efforts in organizing this challenging but extremely interesting expedition !
