Basket of fruit - Help Wanted :o)

Very tentative exploration of "still-life" photography.
This was done by placing a basket of fruit on a table in front
of the window and shooting away. I was unhappy with the results
and I'm not sure why. The fruits could be more artistically arranged in
a more attractive vessel and perhaps a different light source. I'll attempt
this again. Meanwhile if anyone has any suggestions on how to do this better I'd
appreciate hearing them.

Beautiful still life. Subdued ligthing producing a soothing mood. Very special.

I rather like the matt grey background it brings out the variations of
colour in the fruit. I'd experiment with moving in and out and side to side
so the subject isn't so central & as the others have already said, experiment
with light & shade. Lovely clear focus with that Tamron!

I'm no expert on this, but it does look flat. How about setting your light to get some shadows, and throw some water to get a bit of glisten.

It looks a little flat, but is well composed.

You might try using a white reflector to bounce some more light and not use so centered a composition; I don't like the angle of view.... did you put the window at one side of your fruit to enhance the shadows? (the light looks flat) if not, try that with and without the reflector....another option is to do an old masters comp with velvet and some modeling lights (I use a halogen desk light, but it's not here in FL with me :^)

you do one colour, all dark blue and one red apple or whatever.Another compo, you 've taken too high, go lie down .
