Track grinder

Saw this curious site come out of the fog the other day
as I was parked at a level crossing. i presume it's function
is to smooth the railway tracks.

Nikon D70 ,Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6D AF
1/500s f/5.6 at 52.0mm iso200 full exif
