April 17 2006:
Waiting Inside

Today I visited Guildford where in the main shopping street there is a small crypt which only open occasionally for small displays and so on. Today there was a religious group in there with a display on healing.

I took today's PAD from inside the crypt (which is nowhere near a church!)
and the lady you see is a 'believer' handing leaflets to people entering.
Above her you will see some railings and people. These people are standing
in the main street promoting the event.

Yeah Ray, you know this is banging. The framing of the arch creates a fantastic vignetting effect that throws us back into early photography. Rocket From the Crypt indeed.

Ray this is an amazing image..I LOVE IT! v

Youth is invincible; the solitary figure knows otherwise. That is the healing power of wisdom.

Thanks for filling in the back-story.
PBase won't let me vote on this image again, but I would if I could.

I saw this image before you put the text on it, and I had imagined a completely different story. I was thinking of the lonelyness of the old people, and was finding the image very powerful to illustrate that. Now it is a different story, and I know that the waiting has a meaning for this person. Still very powerful though. Great treatment as well. Voted.

Needs to go to page 1.

Evocative of the detachment of the subject from society outside. Faith and healing is in the end a personal thing. Awesome image Ray and perfectly exposed and composed. K

Great image. Tough shot back into the light but you have handled it marvelously well and kept great detail on the walls. Perfect treatment too. I doubt anything but sepia would have carried the weight so well. V.

Very compelling image, Ray. Your framing, your lighting, your toning and even your subject's pose are all so brilliantly controlled. I'm speechless. Voted.

Agree with Laine, a superb shot but seems to be a sad story behind. So separated from life outside. The other one is great as well. voted

I, too, would love to know the story behind this great photograph.
I'll check back here tomorrow to see if you revealed it.

Terribly splendid! I cannot stay at computer right now, I'll come back to this picture tomorrow...definitely the best I have seen today.
Tell me the story, which goes with, I'm eager to know it.
The light sepia hue is so melancholy and perfect here and the light...ah, your lights are unique...
