February 7 2006:
Me on a Retro Tuesday

My first errand when I walked in my charity shop today was to pick up a bunch of cameras that had been donated and get them valued at the local camera shop. They were mostly old Box Brownies that use unobtainable 620 film, and so apart from a Voigtlander, were just put on sale for £5.

But I snapped up this Brownie 127 for myself, as it was identical to the one my parents bought for me when I was seven years old. They had bought it at a church jumble sale and it let the light in through a crack, spoiling all my pictures. They thought that I took good snaps and so later got me a better one. But I rejected that camera, maybe because I had fallen in love with the 127. Or maybe my hormones were kicking in early…

Photoshop:
Cropped and Resized
Converted to Grayscale
Duotoned using Pantone Warm Gray 5C

This time last year I uploaded a photo I took back in April 2004, called ’The Final Pull’
It came second in a DPChallenge competition.

Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel
1/80s f/4.0 at 21.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Isn't 620 just 120 on a different spoool? It'd be great to try it own. BTW, what was the Voightlander??

Ray... a nice shot but the story that goes with it is priceless. It brought back memories of my childhood camera and the pleasure it gave.

I've still got my Brownie 127 I've had since I was in the boy scouts . great to see one in action again! have you got film in that? because it looks like you're taking my picture right now. and that's a heavy dutch! could be very dynamic!

Mine wasn't that fancy but it did use the 620 film.
Still have some of the pics, that always came attached
to one another and you just ripped them apart (across
the dotted holes).
