September 2 2004:
Outsize

This is an Airbus ‘Beluga’ or Super Transporter landing at the manufacturer’s plant at Finkenwerder near Hamburg. The Airbus is made all over Europe, notably in France, German and Britain, and the company has a fleet of these quite unique planes to carry large parts of aircraft around between their factories.

For example, wings are transported from Britain to both France and Germany, and various parts of fuselages are exchanged between the latter also.

You sometimes wonder how planes of such a shape manage to fly, but its really no problem!

Quite eye catching. I was startled when I saw the thumbnail. So good eye here Ray, and thanks for telling us about its use.

You are right Ray - as long as the lift of the wings is there, and means to keep that beast stable as well as power to overcome the increased drag - it will fly.
However, it always gives the feeling of someone trying to do the impossible :-)
Fine capture btw.
