The title for this photo will not mean anything to many of you. But Basingstoke is famous for a being a modern featureless town full of roundabouts, housing estates and everything else that follows on from that. My Uncle was one of many people who moved out there about 35 years ago as his firm relocated from a cramped and expensive London to this modern town 40 miles to the south west.
But this charming cottage was not found in Basingstoke, but in its forebear, Old Basing. In olden times this nearby village was probably the most important settlement around the area, but now it acts as a dormitory village to its brash big brother. Fortunately, Old Basing seems to lack a large housing estate, but I imagine occupiers of cottages such as these saw to that!
