Today I had my baptism of gig photography. Some of you may know that I don’t live very far from Guildford where the Guilfest is currently on, featuring acts such as Blondie, UB40, Ocean Colour Scene, Katie Melua and even Rolf Harris!
I’m not really a gig person but found out about the ‘Come Together’ event at Henley-on-Thames. This is promoted as a multi cultural event and certainly sounded like a good photo opportunity as well as a fun afternoon out. What I didn’t realise that several bands performed at this free event. OK, hardly big names and some hadn’t even released a CD yet, but the music was still good, and what’s more, I could easily shoot from the edge of the stage with no hassle whatsoever.
I soon got the drift of the event when I went to the ‘Iguana Café’ for a snack. Fairtrade coffee was the order of the day, and of course my request for a ham roll was countered by the response that they only did vegetarian! Not only that, I was served by a band member I had seen perform 30 minutes before. So, when is the last time you were served by Debbie, sorry, Deborah Harry? Oh yeah, and most smokers ‘rolled their own’…
Took loads of photos today, and this one featuring Amy Barton of Wire Jesus is also featured on my new gallery of the event (CLICK HERE)
, which will be expanded later.
