May 6 2004:
Changing of the Guard

Windsor, Berkshire

Today I had to go to Windsor, and just happened to see the Foot Guards en route from the barracks to the Castle. The Changing of the Guard takes place at 11am , and my rather rushed shot caught the backs of them showing off their colourful garb. Of interest is the guardsman on the extreme right; his backpack does not seem too ‘traditional’. Perhaps he keeps his chocolate supply in there?

I like the patterns on the backs of the uniforms. Nice and contrasty.

Yeahh, the backpack doesn't quite make the outfit, does it, but how come that one guy's belt is red and not white like everybody else's?? I love the ryhthm of the red shapes "dancing" across the frame. One never really notices what the backs of these guardsmen look like!!

Colorful. Colorful, Colorful. I can hear "Hail Britannia" as I look at it!

A nicely captured bit of British tradition. I'm also quite intrigued by the guy in the middle, who seems to be having a bad bearskin day!
