May 3 2004:
In the Country

Old Burghclere, Berkshire

It’s a Public Holiday here in Britain, and true to tradition the weather, at least in the south, has not been at its best to say the least. Many outdoor events in south east England have either been poorly attended or in a few cases cancelled as people decided not to get wet.

But mid afternoon, the sun shone through and I took out to drive out on unusually clear roads. I just navigated by the seat of my pants, taking any lane that took my fancy. So here we are near Old Burghclere, south of Newbury in Berkshire. Who could resist a tree like this?

Wonderful pastoral scene, Ray. The tree is awesome and the sheep perfect. I thought you maybe went off to meet John.

The ultimate pastoral scene! The pastel colors only add to the calmness...I never would have known it was raining before this! It must get windy there to make that tree lean so far over.

lovely place for a picnic. I wonder why the tree is leaning so much...
