This cemetery was established shortly after the First World War and is maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission, the land having been bought by the US Government from the London Necropolis Company in 1922. The latter company still run the adjacent civilian cemetery, whilst adjacent grounds also host the extensive military cemetery honouring the dead of Britain and the Commonwealth, as well as allies such as Poland.
