The Gloucestershire village is attractive enough, but it is so small there is nothing in particular to write about.
So perhaps instead I will mention that until 1964 that Culkerton was the first intermediate railway station built on the short branch line that started at Kemble and terminated at the market town of Tetbury seven miles away. Later on, rudimentary stations were added, named Rodmarton Platform and Jackaments Bridge, but the latter lasted less than ten years and in 1956 Culkerton station itself closed due to low usage. Amazingly, three years later the railway gave it another go with a diesel railcar replacing the steam train to reduce costs and Culkerton station re-opened. Not only that, but two new 'halts' or 'platforms' were opened. One was called 'Trouble House Halt', named after a fine looking roadside pub that I drove past today.
But despite cost savings, this and many other lines were losing so much money and carrying too few passengers for them to continue, and so the line was closed in 1964.
