Southend has a bit of a down market reputation as a seaside resort and as such has a unique character.

It is only half on the sea, as it's actually situated in the wider part of the Thames estuary.

Having said that, I was taken there as a child to see the festive lights, visit the Kursaal amusement park and admire the Guinness clock!
