Byfleet, England

Byfleet fire station was erected in 1885 but finally closed for business in 1960. In 2008 it was awarded listed building status to save it from demolition.

It's done well, especially when you consider that nearby Woking is currently demolishing its 1973 version.

Amazing to see what kind of intricate work went into the construction of profane buildings like fire houses. A capture well done! ~V~

I'm sure the 1973 version wasn't nearly as well made, or ornate. Glad that they will preserve this old place.

They don't build them like they used to.
