The trains on the Isle of Wight have always had to be a bit smaller than on the mainland because of the bridges and tunnels. So when the Isle of Wight Steam Railway started up in the 1960s, they were pretty much forced to use these old fashioned carriages which are now about 100 years old.
The small loco here 'Calbourne' was built in 1894, at the Nine Elms Works near Waterloo.
