Hindhead, Surrey

This is the only remaining part of the London to Portsmouth Road that is still single carriageway, a stretch that travels around the rim of the 'Devils Punch Bowl' and into the village of Hindhead.

However, construction of a new road incorporating a one mile long tunnel will at last open in August 2011. Once complete, the old stretch of road shown here will be turned back to heathland managed by the National Trust.
