Battersea Power Station

Open to the public until November 5 for the art exhibition "China Power Station Part 1", but to me the building is the real interest. http://www.serpentinegallery.org/2006/08/china_power_station_part_i_8_o_1.html

Battersea Power Station was built in 1933, but was extended 20 years later with two further chimneys to make it look like a table upside down!

It ceased generating in 1982, but as a protected building, it cannot be demolished. Plans are afoot to make the building a centrepiece of a new riverside development. http://www.thepowerstation.co.uk/

I'm really impressed! I've seen this building from the outside before it ceased activities and many times after, but I never thought a second it could be so impressive and so much in ruins these days. You did a great work! Voted!

As someone wrote rightly below, we cannot help hearing in the background an echo of Pink Floyd. It’s a powerful gallery (not only a power station), which once again shows us how you can master the light in your images. A way to show us the beautiful side of the decay. Great work, Ray!

Great record of the place as it is now - will be interesting to see it once it's developed. They just did the same here in Singapore with the St James Power Station. Not such an icon as the Battersea PS but nice to see an old building surviving here - so many don't.

I earlier saw Stuart's pictures on the power station and now yours. Took a slideshow tour and I must say it's really WOW! A great place to explore. Love the texture, the fine detail, the color contrast, and the graphic element. Very well seen and composed. Voted.
