Week 3

The Beauty of Backlighting
Silhouettes
Transillumination
Rim Lighting
Turn in up to three photos showing backlighting. Try to include at least two of the three types of lighting I've discussed.

Jim's Comments:
Chuck,

Your original shot is still better. It's beautiful in design, lighting, and composition. The exposure is right-on, and this was a tricky balancing act between the sun and the much darker foreground. The red/magenta bias and increased contrast in the Nik version isn't working.

Jim

Hi Chuck,

Both of these shots are great. The tombstones are beautifully lit with dramatic side and rim lighting, and the texture on the grass is an added bonus from the extreme angle of the light. I also like your downward shooting perspective. That really makes this work so well.

Your photo of the pick-up game is also very well done. This is not an easy shot to get because there are so many elements to deal with, plus the lighting. Everything fits here, from the bicycle to the man on the right to the baseball team in the background. The two players are well positioned, and of course you lighting couldn't be better. You have a great eye for composition and lighting. This is excellent work.

Jim
