Vancouver visit 2007

In February 2007 I visited Vancouver for the IEEE Computer Society meetings. I went a couple of days before the meetings to take some photographs. The weather was good for the first day - after that the Vancouver weather made even British weather look good.
Vancouver is a great place - wonderful setting, friendly people, excellent food (I don't think I've had better food anywhere else). However, the level of urban deprivation is depressing.

I guess now you know why they call Vancouver, Vansterdam. Great tolerence to drugs are one thing but an urbanization that grew too fast in the past 15 years, and still growing at an allarming pace, construction everywhere... and you get a downside to it all. If you're lucky enough to live in the right braket, it a wonderful place to be. Cheers

Very nice gallery, I especially like the wide shot of False Creek (with the Burrard Street Bridge in the background). As to the unsightly side of Vancouver you mention, the main two reasons we have this tremendous drug, panhandling and property crime problem here is that we have the mildest climate in all of Canada and because of the unbelievably tolerant attitude to drugs by the authorities. So this fair city has become a magnet for all these people.
