Unlike my other galleries, this is a personal gallery for Tomás López Jiménez, a professor at Universidad de las Ciencias Informáticas, UCI.
I met Tomás through my work for the IEEE Computer Society - Tomás encouraged his students to enter the international student competition that I was organizing. We corresponded and it turned out that we shared the same interest in computer history and computer design.

I visited Tomás three times at UCI where he was a senior member of faculty.
I have never met anyone so enthusiastic about his work. He never stopped. He was probably the friendliest and most approachable professor I ever met - totally dedicated to his students and colleagues.

I grew to respect, admire and love Tomás. On my last visit to UCI my wife Sue came with me and she felt the same way about Tomas.

I was not able to visit UCI this year because of the pressure of work and because I did not want to be a burden on Tomás who was being treated for cancer.

Sadly, Tomás passed away in August. Tragically, his wife Nilda who had also been diagnosed with cancer passed away two weeks later.

This gallery contains pictures I took at UCI with Tomás, Adriana, and Beatriz plus members of the management team, faculty, staff, and students that I met during my wonderful days at UCI.
Tomás may not be with us but I will never forget him. He will live on in all our hearts.



Conocí a Tomás a través de mi trabajo para la Sociedad de Computación del IEEE - Tomás animaba a sus estudiantes a participar en el concurso internacional de estudiantes que yo estaba organizando. Nos escribimos y resultó que compartiamos el mismo interés por la historia de la computacion y el diseño de ordenadores.

Visité tres veces a Tomás en la UCI, donde era miembro destacado de la facultad.
Nunca he conocido a nadie tan entusiasta con su trabajo. Él nunca descansaba. Probablemente fue el profesor mas amable y accesible que he conocido - totalmente dedicado a sus alumnos y colegas.
Llegué a respetar, admirar y amar a Tomás. En mi última visita a la UCI mi esposa Sue vino conmigo y ella sentía lo mismo por Tomás.

No pude visitar la UCI este año debido a la presión de trabajo y porque no quería ser una carga para Tomás, que estaba siendo tratado por cáncer.
Lamentablemente, Tomás falleció en agosto. Trágicamente, su esposa Nilda, que también había sido diagnosticada con cáncer, falleció dos semanas después.

Esta galería contiene fotos que tomé en la UCI con Tomás, Adriana, y Beatriz, más los miembros del equipo directivo, profesores y empleados que conocí durante mis maravillosos días en la UCI.
Tomás puede no estar con nosotros, pero yo nunca lo olvidaré. Él vivirá en nuestros corazones.
