Over the Easter 2012 period Sue and I visited the USA, starting in El Paso and ending up in New Orleans. This set of images was taken in some of the magnificent cemeteries of New Orleans. Cemeteries are places of tranquility and sadness, but they also link the past with the present and provide some beautiful images. Of course, the images are often clichéd, kitschy, and over-sentimental – but that doesn’t stop prevent them from being moving. Perhaps I have a soft spot of statues that convey emotion, because my favorite artist is Käthe Kollwitz (1868-1845).
