The TERRIFYING Birds and Bees

Cristi told Olivia (our daughter) at age 8 about the birds/bees thing.
She asked me if I was going to tell the boys or if she should.
I of course said I would.
Well the time became apparent when Walker asked what the "f" word was and what it meant.

We packed up the car and went on a father/son dinner date.
See the title of the book he is reading.I thought it would be a good starter for our talk.
As you can see by his look,it went into detail about everything.

We did good at dinner and it turned out to be easier than I thought.
I used various food items from the china buffet to illustrate.
His first question was about the "transfer" and he asked
"how long do you have to do that?" I had a hard time keeping a straight face.

He took a BIG step towards manhood and we grew closer tonight.
I decided we would get him his first real gun, a .22 tonight ,also just to mark an important date in his life.(mine too)
Cristi ,thanks for being persistent and having more insight than "the doctor" about the importance of this opportunity.

Dads, don't miss out.8 years old is not to young.

Wait till they are 9or 10 and you will get the old"I already know dad"
He also has one up on his friends now. He knows about everything, and told his friends that he and I talked about everything.
I told him he should tell his friends to ask their dads to tell them when they inevitably ask him what we talked about.

I am reminded again how short life is and how many opportunities we miss.

Great story. Walker does look stunned. You've captured the essence of the moment. I would have liked to see the food demonstration!
