One Cannot Be Squeamish

Texas Canyon, Dragoon, Arizona

...if one is going to walk through the untamed desert! Three images.

Yep, I was walking home from work and not too long into my walk I encountered a Western Diamond-backed
Rattlesnake. He was on half of the road facing into the desert (top image).
He kindly, and very calmly, slithered into the desert when I got too close.

The second one was a different story, however. This one was taking up half the road and facing into
the road. He was not going to move either and did not make any threatening moves toward me.
After careful consideration and with a bit of trepidation, I walked around the front of the snake
giving it as wide a birth as possible and watching it the entire time. It let me pass without incident.

The second snake, about 2/3 mile from the first:

Yikes! And to think that my heart gets going when I almost step on a skunk! That's all I have to look out for around here. We don't have much in the way of reptiles and nothing poisonous. I enjoyed this photo. It's just too bad that the other two are missing.

How cool is that!!! When you think camera first instead of 'run', it means you are a true nature photographer. Super catch, Carol.

Wow Carol! You must be living in Snake Town. Great shots.... I wouldn't try to get a closeup macro of one of these guys! :)

It's so funny to think of living in an area where snake hooks are more common that snow shovels!

Beautiful caputre, Carol. He sure has a grumpy look on his face. Very well done.

You must be high alert when walking home especially with these snakes blending in with the environment!

Great shots, very informative. I think you should learn how to handle a snake for your safety. v

Nice series of images...
You know I've lived here for a lot of years and have yet to see a rattler that I did not purposely go hunting for...
Which is fine with me...

Very good, though somewhat chilling shots, Carol! Somewhat familiar encounters to those of us who have lived in southern Az. V

Nice sequence Carol. We see them here too. I always steer clear.
