Horse Lubber Grasshopper

Around Home, Southeastern Arizona

(Taeniopoda eques)
ID: Large and shiny, mostly black. Hind margin of pronotum and forewing veins in yellow. Hindwings red with black borders.
Range: Southern Arizona and New Mexico and west Texas, down through Mexico to Costa Rica.
Habitat: Desert shrub and oak areas. Also found around mesquite
