I spotted the beautiful wings when I looked out my window and saw this insect on the outside screen.
I grabbed up my camera and went slowly out the door so as not to scare it away.
It flew from one thing to another and stayed close to the house while I took lots of pictures of it.
I had never seen a fly this big (body about 1 inch) or beautiful before and I just couldn't get enough. (I'm only posting three :o)
I submitted four images to www.bugguide.net and found, to my delight, that this is a fourth species of the Xenox genus of Bee Fly found in North America.
They already had images of the first three species, but not this one! I also learned that they think it was named Xenox which is Greek for stranger or alien.
