White Sands....the largest dune of it's kind in the United States. This is not a sand dune, but nearly three hundred square miles of pure gypsum, as fine as powdered sugar as it sifts through your hands.
The existence of this dune is due to a specific combination of factors...an enclosed basin (Tularosa Basin), a warm climate, a source of gypsum and the constant wind.
