Destination Paddled: Hogs Back to Black's Rapids Lock, Rideau River, Ottawa, Ontario
Date: July 18, 2019
Number of Paddlers: 3
Temperature: 29C (84.2 F)
Distance paddled: 13.0 km (8.1 miles)
This is a paddle that we do every year and it is always enjoyable. Usually I spend a lot of time taking pictures of the expensive homes along the water but “been there and bought the t-shirt” so I didn't this time. It was another hot and muggy day. Temperature was 29C (84.2F) but the humidex drove the temps up to 36C (96.8F). Thank goodness there was a fair breeze the whole time.
This was the paddle we had tried to do three previous times this month but because of thunderstorms, it was postponed. It was one of the busiest times on the river for this location I can remember. As a result there were fewer sightings of wildlife than normal. We did see some Canada Geese, some Mallards and one Blue Heron. We did see lots of kayakers, canoes and stand up paddle boards. There were also the boats out practicing from the Rideau Boat Club. We saw all the various classes of racing paddle boats including the 8's! That was a treat.
Enjoy the pictures.
