On 28 May 2025, a gigantic (9 million cubic meter) landslide of ice, rock and debris has completely covered up 90% of the village of Blatten in the valley of Lötschental (Switzerland). All inhabitants had been evacuated a few days before so have survived, but in a matter of a few seconds have lost their homes, their possessions and their businesses. The few houses not covered by the landslide have been flooded as a result of water accumulation from the river Lonza.
The Lötschental is a hiking paradise in winter, summer and fall. These pictures are from my hikes in Lötschental between 2014 and 2025.
Beautiful images to remember Blatten before the landslide and great views of the surrounding landscapes over the seasons. A superb mountain gallery. V.
