This was an evening of patriotic music
related to Independence Day celebrations (July 4, 1776)
with orchestra and men's choir.
Near the end they had a parade of flags from
all branches of the military and
this re-enactment of the famous statue which
commemorates the victory at Iwo Jima, battle of (1945),
penultimate island invasion of the Pacific campaign and
possibly the most intense battle of WWII
where Nimitz said that
‘uncommon valor was a common virtue’.
A quarter of all the Congressional Medals of Honor
awarded during WWII were won there."
(Quoting encyclopedia)
I do NOT celebrate war!
This evening of music was
reverent and rousing,
remembering those who defend
their country and freedom.
