Insects & Poets

Walking in wet grass
I see the web,
woven of spider silk,
stretched like starched lace
to dry in the sun.
Beads of dew sparkle
in the morning light--
a stash of jewels dropped
in the night.

Insects and poets
intrude upon such beauty
at great risk.

--Elaine Parker Akin

This Spider Web is an aging photo I captured of a woodcut
hanging in Elaine’s home. She used one as cover picture
for her “Insects and Poets,” book.

Perhaps we intrude even when we observe, but how can we not? Wonderful poem.

Nice macro, looks like maybe a milkweed bug. Love the mossy surface it is on. tried voting but said I voted???

It's similar in colour to one we call the Harlequin Bug...perhaps from another close family to it.

Looking at all the people here that are no longer posting...so many friends.

Wow! Exciting capture and poem to go with it. I think photographers could be combined with the message to Insects and poets. The poem is great as is, though. Terrific!

Not Lightning Bugs... Nice angle on what is probably an Eastern Boxelder, or some other "plant bug". ;-)
