APR 14

This image was made here at my desk with two small desklamps (with just these little
20 watt halogen lightbulbs -- small, cute, but apparently effective enough). The desk
lamps are to the left and right of my shoulders, each about a foot away, one pointed
to the face, the other pointed towards the background.

Later on, the background was fudged up in Photoshop because it was just the tones
which were wanted, not the background details themselves.

The image was converted to black & white, but kept in a RGB color mode so that a
color shift for toning could then be applied. Finally, for toning, the color balance
(ctrl+B) as follows was used:

Highlights: cyan 8 ; magenta 4
Midtones: cyan 24 ; magenta 18
Shadows: cyan 14 ; magenta 8

CJ... thanks for posting some of the how to data with your shot. This is great... I always find myself looking at you shots to try and figure out what is done in camera and what in PS (I can't usually tell!) Excellent self portrait!

Great work indeed. Lighting body parts with smaller lamps can habe a nice effect. I used to work on nudes in that way in my youth in my studio. Silhouettes with spotted body parts is a real beautifull photographic art.

Love the finish. Can you tell me more about this? Is it one of those Duotones in PS??
Guest 14-Apr-2004 04:30
The details in the skin texture, facial hair, and eyes is quite striking. Very vivid and realistic.
