Using the late Bill Howard's notes, Cousins have recreated the algorithm needed to produce our Johnston Phylogenetic tree, and they have made some improvements to it. We have also tightened up the group discarding some of those whose results were so distant as to skew the JPT. As a result, we are now at 72 subjects. We excluded several of the distant non-Johnston surnames which predated us considerably. This tended to move things around a wee bit, making the JPT more precise, BUT we are still short of the much needed 79 subjects to optimize the algorithm.
