First Adult Tail Feather

Pearland, Texas

I couldn't get Thor to stay still long enough to take a photo of his new tail feather until he had his shower. There it is in all it's wet glory :-) He's lost a couple of more tail feathers too. He'll need all of his new plumage as I've got some good fields lined up for the fall hunting season.

As Thor goes through his first molt there is only one word that I can find that describes his mood - pissey!!! He is simply miserable to get along with, in fact, I've basically given up trying to do anything with him until his molt is finished. Then we'll start in with the training again.

I must say that I am very pleased with the design and construction of his mews. The white EPDM roof over a plywood deck with a reflective surface on the inside do a great job of keeping the inside much cooler than the outside. In fact, it was a real sweatbox outside this afternoon, but once I got inside the hawk house I felt very comfortable :-)
