I am guessing that this photograph was taken sometime in the 1920s. The pioneer's life was not an easy one, but land was inexpensive and available. On the back of the photograph Mrs. R. Johnston wrote: "...in the night the squeaking wheels on the Red River carts could be heard as they passed, on their way to 'North Battleford'."

This is the only photo that I have of these kin.
Looking at Sam's shoes I can see the "genetic link"...lol...they are very large! I wear size 17 shoes and my son size 19.
