Christmas Eve Bonfires

St James Parish, Louisiana, USA

Building bonfires and lighting them on Christmas Eve is a century old tradition in St James Parish, Louisiana, USA.

Twenty (20) foot wooden bonfires are built by local residents to light the way for Pappa Noel in this rural community. This year there were about 120 bonfires built on the Mississippi River levee in St James Parish.
