Great Egret and Chicks

An early Sunday morning shot of this Great Egret and its Chicks.
There are 3 baby egrets in this nest.
Most eggs have hatched by now and all the young are in the nests.
One of the baby chicks almost fell out of the nest as I was shooting pics.
I'm sure an alligator would have liked the treat! OUCH

A beautiful pose. Mama preens while the chicks scream for food. I have noticed that the third and fourth egret in the nest is usually killed by the other two. They starve it and then push it out of the nest after they've pecked it to death. Nature is not always pretty, huh?
