Prized Catch!

Louisiana

I ran upon this Great Blue Heron chasing this Louisiana Choupique. He stalked this fish and tried three times to catch it. Finally, the 4th time was a charm. I watched him for 45 minutes thinking I was going to get a real great closeup of this Great Blue Heron with a nice size Bullfrog. To my surprise, this is what he pulled up! I had to quickly take off the Nikon TC-17E-II so I could get most of him and the fish in the frame.

Quite amazing what these birds will catch, and eat. Although I think this one was a little too big for him. He struggled to haul it away out of my sight, which they usually do when they catch something to eat. You have to be quick to snap a few.

Wow !! great shot! I would say quality time in Louisiana, good swamp scenery, with a home grown Louisiana Heron and Louisiana Choupique, what a great RECIPE.

Hi Chris,
Now this is a case of the eyes being bigger than the stomach. Did he actually eat this thing. It looks like a choupique. Bowfin to the rest of the country.
